Paying Your Fine
Legal Notifications
According to Senate Bill 1504, “If you fail to appear as provided by law for the prosecution of the offense, you may be denied the renewal of your driver’s license.” You must appear before the judge on the appointed date and time on your citation if you have not taken care of your ticket before the court date.
Liability Insurance Notice
“A second or subsequent conviction of an offense under the Texas Motor Vehicle Safety Responsibility Act will result in the suspension of your driver’s license and motor vehicle registration unless you file and maintain evidence of financial responsibility with the Department of Public Safety for two years from the date of conviction. The department may waive the requirement to file evidence of financial responsibility if you file satisfactory evidence with the department showing that at the time this citation was issued, the vehicle was covered by a motor vehicle insurance policy or that you were otherwise exempt from the requirements to provide evidence of financial responsibility.”
Juvenile Address Notification
“A child and parent required to appear before the court have an obligation to provide the court in writing with the current address and residence of the child. The obligation does not end when the child reaches age 17. On or before the seventh day after the date the child or parent changes residence, the child or parent shall notify the court of the current address in the manner directed by the court. A violation of this subsection may result in arrest and is a Class C misdemeanor. The obligation to provide notice terminates on discharge and satisfaction of the judgment or final disposition not requiring a finding of guilt.”
Paying Your Fine
You may pay your fine anytime from 5 working days after receipt of the citation until your court date. You may also request defensive driving or deferred disposition during this time frame. Per state law, a court appearance is mandatory for defendants under 17 years of age and alcohol and tobacco related offenses for defendants under 21 years. All Assault-Family Violence cases are also a mandatory court appearance. You can view your citation amount and court date online; please have your citation number or driver's license available. Be advised that on the day of your court hearing, the online payment module is not an option for you; payments must be made in full PRIOR to your set court day, not the day of your court date.
You may request payment extensions from the court clerk anytime prior to your court date or from the judge at your court appearance. When a payment extension is requested, a $15.00 additional state cost will be added to each offense after the 30th day. Payment extensions will result in a conviction. Payments are due no later than 5:45 pm on the date listed on your payment extension.
You may be able to pay your fine amount in full using the online payment module. You can make partial payments or monthly payments on the online payment system. You cannot pay for Defensive Driving or Deferred Disposition online.
Dismissals
Some violations may be dismissed if proper documentation and payment is received before the original court dateExpired driver’s license (renew online) and expired registration (if state penalty paid), may be dismissed with a $20.00 state cost (per violation) if corrected and you submit a photocopy of proper documentation by your original court date.
Failure to change address or name on a drivers license (renew online) may be dismissed with a $20.00 state cost if corrected within 20 days of the ticket date and a photocopy of documentation is submitted.
Insurance may be dismissed at no charge if you provide a photocopy of proof of insurance (insurance card with policy number and agent’s phone number) by your court date. Insurance must show valid at the time of offense. The driver's name must appear on the card or be verifiable as a covered driver.
Window tint violations may be dismissed for a $10.00 state cost with proof (either a receipt showing tint was removed or a large piece of the window tint if self removed.)
One license plate or improperly mounted license plate violations may be dismissed for $10.00 state cost with proof (photos showing front and back license plates properly mounted.)
Violation Amounts
Due to the large number of violations we are unable to list each offense and fine amount. All fines consist of the city fine amount as well as mandatory state costs the court is required to collect. The stated fine amount will include the state costs. For offenses not listed, call the court clerk at (210) 659-0333 extension 715, 716 or 717. Fine amounts are doubled for violations occurring in a construction zone when workers are present. Call the court for the correct amount.
Fine Listing
The following fines are the most common offenses; the list is not all inclusive. The amounts shown are the pre-assessed fines and include state costs. If you choose to wait until your court date to have your case heard by the judge and you are found guilty, the fine may be within the limit provided by law (up to $1000) without regard to the pre-assessed schedule of fines. If you are convicted of an offense and are unable to pay the fine and state costs, you may have the court assess your ability to pay and the court may provide alternatives to full payment in satisfying the judgment.
